Fort Wayne Derby Girls Announce October Bout Proceeds to Benefit the Hoosier Burn Camp

The Fort Wayne Derby Girls have raised over $20,000 for local charities since March 2006, and on Saturday, October 13, they will raise money for the Hoosier Burn Camp (HBC). Named “Rocky Horror Derby Show,” the October 13th bout will pit the Little Arsenic Annies against the Alpha Dollz for the second time this season. The first time these two team met, the Alpha Dollz ran away with the victory. Can they do it again? Come find out and be part of the hard hittin’ and charity driven action. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bout starts at 7 p.m. You can purchase tickets at Bikes and Boards, The PLEX, Get Wet or from any derby girl. Advance tickets are $10 or $12 at the door. If you are a man or woman in blue, EMT, fire fighter, teacher or military service person and show your i.d. at the door, you will get $2 off the price of your ticket.

Beginning at 4 p.m., HBC is hosting a tailgate party at the PLEX. On display will be the Fort Wayne Fire Department, Southwest Allen County Fire District, Fort Wayne Police Department Hazardous Device Unit and the rockin’ roll group Loose Change.

About the Hoosier Burn Camp (HBC)

When a child sustains a burn injury, their life is changed forever. HBC, founded in 1997, was started to provide peer support for these children. Summer camp is a special experience for all children, but HBC combines the “good old fashion fun of summer camp” with the life skills kids need to fully recover from a serious trauma of burn injuries. The cost to send one child to camp is $1000.00 per week. Our donation will help defray some of the cost to operate HBC.

About Fort Wayne Derby Girls

FWDG was founded in October 2005 and is the state’s first all-female, flat-track roller derby league. It encourages community involvement from all socio-economic groups in Fort Wayne and its surrounding communities. The league embodies the strength, courage and vitality of Fort Wayne women, but also serves to provide another form of amateur athletic entertainment to the Summit City.

Members of FWDG’s are required to contribute to the community through both volunteering and monetary contributions to Fort Wayne charities, such as the Adopt a Highway program and other charitable organizations focusing on women and children. The skating program includes regular supervised training and instruction for city competition between three derby teams to prepare the teams to represent Fort Wayne at national competitions.
